Email from customers who have built the SQ-50H, SQ-50L and MB-50 using our loudspeaker kit.

Thousands of these speakers have been built so far, and we keep getting email from our very satisfied customers.
This is just a few, but you get an idea of what people like about the SQ-50 speakers.

(As you can see, we have made screen dumps of the original email. So, we can´t change the content. We have however pixelized or cut-out personal information to honor our customers integrity.)
Translations are made as close to the original text as possible. However, when a swedish expression has no exact counterpart in english, the closest we could find has been used, of we have just made a literal translation.
Also, sometimes people can´t express themselves clearly in writing, and if we don´t understand exactly what they mean, we have just translated word-by-word. So, if the english translation seems a bit odd here and there, it is probably because the swedish original was the same.

DEEP IN THE DARK VAERMLAND FORESTS THE SOUND OF DEEP BASS TONES ARE NOW HEARD... AND NOONE NO LONGER IS AFRAID OF THE WOLF...

Hi, by the way, enough of this, now to the point:
I bought my first pair of SQ50, did the woodwork for the L variant, broke in the drivers properly and... WHAT HAPPENS????
-WELL, THE BASS GOES SO DEEP THAT NOONE BELEIVES ME WHEN i SAY THAT MY DSW400- FEEDED DOUBLE 10A TO SUB IS SHUT OFF..
At the same time as the bass is so deep, the whole ”sound picture” is fantastically clear and pure, it is simply incredible that it is possible for 1000 SEK (=100 €) each...

Playing heavy rock & metal on SQ50 works phenomenally well, they cope all the way. So now I just wait to put the 7.1 system together.

If it hasn´t been shown above, I only want to make one thing clear: After 10 years of building and experimenting with speakers from, among others, Visaton, Vifa, MGR, Veres and others I have now reached what I have always strived for, namely the TOTAL SOUND-HAPPINESS!

Hallo!

I bought an SQ-50 kit from you a few weeks ago and have just finished the job.
Must say I am very impressed by the sound of these speakers. You get surprised about how clear the sound is and most of all about how deep they play even if they are not broken in. Have been sitting all day just listening to them with a big smile all over my face. :-)

Hallo Stefan!

Have played with my fantastic SQ-50´s for almost a year and must say that I am very satisfied. Although the creations are not placed in an idealistic room (laminated floor) they sound excellent. Rich detail and transient without comparison!!

Thanks, I will pass it on to him.
My two SQ-50 are by the way finished and work perfectly! So you can put another satisfied customer on your list.

Hallo!
I just finished by SQ-50´s. I made them a little deeper and
thinner, as I didn´t like the original width, and put a
brace in the middle (against the front and side walls), but all other
parameters are the same as on the original. I must say that I got
plesently surprised, as I had no special expectations
(except that they would be better than my old)!
These speakers sound very, very good, especially when you take
the low price in consideration! The first thing that hit me was how detailed the sound was
and how exact the stereo image was, not matter that I tested using the worst
possible amplifier and extremely thin ”headphone cables” that happend to
lay around. It will be fun to test them with my HK670 amplifier and
decent cables!

Kind greetings, Emil Sistolainen

PS -You may gladly publish picture and comments as well as my name.

Hi! thought I´d write some lines about MB 50. Have tested about 4 models of speakers on stands to my 2 subbass´s, one sub doesn´t work. After putting together a box in 15 mm MDF, in with the drivers and filter, up with them on the subs and in with the filter.
In with my favorite record among others Pink Floyd, talk about a raise to match 2 subs.
Probably stand speakers shouldn´t be bass reflex, it interferce with the midrange and it becomes all messy.

Here details, cleanliness and dynamics come through in a way I haven´t heard before, lower octaves are taken care of by the subs which they are made for.

My carpenter then made 2 boxes of 35 mm MDF, overkill, yes, but it didn´t turn out worse I can say,...

Conclution: Haven´t had any better system, and this one for a budget price.

Thinking about buying a pair for the TV as well.

Kind greetings ............................. Anderstorp

I must say this WOW WOW what a sound!!!!!!

I now have played my lovely cd records that now sound completely different compared to before. (And then a swedish expression ”gott mos” which literally means tasty mashed potatoes!)

I recommend these with all my heart. What came in also came out, I played Dire Straits (Brothers in arms), have not heard this cd sound better enywhere else... what can I say, yes BUILD THESE, MUSIC LOVERS!!!!!!

The closeness is frantically good, yes everything. I have built 3 of the 8 liter loudspeakers called MB-50 (no drawing in english yet, however) for my system. They sound very good together and the sound has good space in it. I have also some light in the fronts with a switch on the back, driven by a 9 V battery. A cool effect if you want to joke a little with one´s friends.

Yes, Stefan, what you said was true. XXXX (swearing) how good they sound (using a young people expression, literally they ”rock fat”)

Hi!

I just finished building my loudspeakers, two SQ-50 (H).
I did this as a project at school (highschool) and it was clearly succesful!

This was the first time, but I don´t think it will be the last...
Very satisfied with them, have discovered details in both film and music that I didn´t know about, without any effort!

I think, without being an expert, that you have succeeded with your design, it would be fun to build some MB-50´s...

Sending a couple of pictures that you may gladly publish on your homepage, it would be nice...

Kind greetings

Jakob Spång

PS. If you publish this you may of course also write my name.

Hi, Stefan.

Have now set up my home cinema equipment with my homemade loudspeakers SQ50 and MB50. It became, to put it bluntly, ass-good! What a sound.

Hallo!
After being impressed by test listening SQ-50 at you(r shop) the days after christmas and being able to convince our friend the furniture carpenter that he needs new loudspeakers, a ”smålänning” (person from a part of Sweden where people are known to be VERY economical, or even cheap) can´t resist the priceworthyness of your package. We have thus decided to build four pairs at the same time!

I hereby order four HSQ-50 kits that I intend to collect at your place in Johanneberg.
What about the terminals HK-560 or -480, is that something I have to decide in advance, or do you have plenty of them in stock?

Kind greetings / BR
........................

Hi!
I ordered a HSQ-50 kit from you in the beginning of december. Now the building of them is finished and I was so pleased with the sound and the cabinets that I wanted to send some pictures.

A little about the cabinets:
The material is 16mm MDF that I have screwed and glued together.
The joining was made slightly different from your drawing, but the inner sizes are identical.
The cabinets are roll painted with red hammer paint. First I thought they were too read but now I think they became rather good, especielly with the grey fronts.

I think these speakers will be around for a long time in my home. Because they sound excellent! When they were ready I just longed to get home from work all day, just because I thought they sounded so good.

Hi! I have got a pair of sq-50 from you earlier and they sound heavenly... it has really happend that I have turned around to check who is talking to me, when there has been some chat between the songs on the record that was played. ----------------------------------

Hi
Have built a pair of MB-50 and is very satisfied with the result.
I can´t find any pictures or drawings of VH-1, MH-1 and MH-1special.
It would be interesting to (see*) those variants.

(incomplete sentence, probably ”see” is missing)

Hi, Stefan!

Have now run my SQ-50 for a long time and is very pleased. Still haven´t any premises to work properly with mixing, så yet no serious mixes with SQ-50 as monitor, but they clearly uncover everything!

Took a while until I had the time to build them but now they are ready and the sound is increadible first I didn´t notice the deep bass before one looked at a movie then you discovered how deep they go. And you don´t get tired of the sound when it is better so you can raise the volume without loosing quality and the sound doesn´t get ”tiresome”. -------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------- A good buy...

Hi!
Just finished building my SQ-50 and the first listening impression is very good :-) !
Return with pictures after breaking in and put on finish.

Hello! Stefan.

I was at your place and bought a pair of SQ-50 just one hour ago. I thought it could be interesting to know what I would have to pay for drivers + filter if I had bought everything. Was I surprised when I discovered that I saved money by buying from your! The german suppliers wanted 50 Euro for your bass driver and 20 Euro for the tweeter. Then some money for the filter components plus freight from Germany. ------------------------------------------

Kind greetings Roland

Hi hi
Now my SQ-50 have had to show their hand for almost three weeks. I must say that I av VERY pleased! The sound is really neutral in the way that it seemes to recapture what´s on the CD. Full of detail, open and with a firm and deep bass! Also, they become more and more convincing over time, the longer they are being used.
Myself, I am a newbie, both in carpentry and even more ”the electronics”. Think I have used a soldering pen once 20 years ago or so...
With some assistance from you (when I even had trouble interpreting the wiring diagram) it went more smoothly than I had thought. It has simply been very fun to build! And it doesn´t get worse because of the low price...
I covered the particle board with ”cheat veneer” in plastic, looking like birch. The front protection is made of 10 mm MDF (which was left over and I got at a low cost), cut to a frame, painted black and covered with black loudspeaker fabric from Biltema (a swedish company).
The front protection covers the whole front, except for a cm at the bottom. Really not bad at all. Unfortunately haven´t got any digital camera, but will maybe send a paper picture in due time.

-------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------

Well, once again, thank you som much for your knowledge and nice ”bemötande”. (The swedish word means how someone is being treated by someone else. There is no exact english translation.

Hi Stefan just finished my first SQ-50 is became excellently good and now I wonder, to get my home cinema equipment to work 100% I need three more loudspeakers. ------------------

I must say I was very impressed by the sound. At several occations I have discovered new dimensions in the music I listen to. The bass is very quick and is ”felt” in a completely other manner than what I have experienced with my older speakers. Despite the quick bass the deep bass also appears, and I am very impressed by that. Without any tendency of ”rumbling sound” it goes deeper than you could imagine. However, what impresses me most is the midrange and treble. Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler are spinning fast now, it is so beautiful you hardly think it is true! :-)

You were right about my old Pioneer amplifier. It doesn´t feel dull and lifeless as it did before, its lifespan has clearly increased now! I have tested my SQ-50 with a 30 year olf Technics, but then the sound went rumbling and lacked all detail in the higher registers.

Hope you found the report interesting, I will also send a few pictures of the speakers.

Kind greetings

Hi!
First I want to congratulate on the design SQ-50. We use them now for TV/movies and it sounds to xxxxxxxxxxxxx good! More and more also DVD and ordinary CD´s. Impressing sound. When I have finished the surface (I will let a local artist paint motives from Öregrund on the fronts) you can get a picture

Hi Stefan,

The speakers are just awesome! They have been on all day, will probably be broken in completely within a week at this rate. Can´t describe with words how good the sound is.
Thought you couldn´t get this good sound for 205 Euro incl everything. The bass is so precise that even bad recordings from the 70´s and 80´s make you being taken aback. The bass goes on and off exactly at the right moment and the stereo impression is completely clear. You hear precisely everything you are ”supposed to” hear.
Details that I previously only could hear in my Koss The Plug, have been even MORE clear, hardly thought that was possible.

I now sit and listen in the middle of the night at very low level and the bass can be heard just as clearly as on higher volume, not to forget how perfect the treble is. It plays just everything withou crashing with the bass, all different parts of the sound are spread and precise, not the usual ”sound carpet” that most ”usual listeners” are used to. I no longer have to turn up the volume of the amplifier to hear ”everything”. I should add that my amplifier is an old relic from the early 90´s, a real budget amplifier, Pioneer A-119, 2*25W I think. Thought about upgrading it, but SQ-50 has really given it new life. You really don´t need such a fantastic amplifier to experience good music, it is not until now I have understood how important the loudspeakers are.

I recommend these speakers to everyone who wants to experience music in reality!

thanks. A little odd that the invoice always comes the day after the package.

has only finished one of the speakers (not even finished painting). I am very impressed by the bass after only 4-5 hours, better than my old JWS with double 10”, goes deeper and plays cleaner. The stereo image is more open but what most impresses me is that if really delivers such good bass with that small driver.

very satisfied!

/Charlie

(Skrivet av en ljudtekniker)

The nice thing with these boxes is that they reveal som of the sound technicians trics, compressors, microphones et.c. Just what I need.
Well produced music also becomes extra well sounding, too.
Now I will only decide what surface finish it will be...
kind regards
Olle

(Bowers & Wilkins NT7:or ansågs av många vara bland de bästa på marknaden när de såldes i början av 2000-talet.)

How ”nice” I say!!! (once again, a special swedish non-translatable expression)
Thanks a lot for the late answer, and that I was allowed to intrerrupt!!

An eminent design you have come up with! I will return later on with pictures and history about the hardships of the building!
Spontaneously I must say that these speakers sound better than my BW CDM NT7! It is peerless. My mate who otherwise is not as interested in sound as I didn´t beleive her ears that it can sound this good for so little money! I can hardly beleive it myself! I will happily* recommend you to those sound interested people I know! Peerlessly competent speakers!

(Bowers & Wilkins NT7:s were by many considered to among the best on the market when they wer sold in the early 2000´s)

have just broken in my SQ-50L and turn on a group called enigma to check what they can acheive, 5 minutes later someone knocks on the door, I lower the volume and find my sound-crazy neighbour standing with big round eyes outside my door. The neighbour: I understand you didn´t buy those kits.
Me: Yes, they are standing in the living-room. It ends with us pulling down my SQ-50L´s to his 2000 € stereo and connected my SQ-50L via a loudspeaker switchboard and switched back and forth between my SQ-50L and his B&W 704.
My neighbour is now going to sell his speakers and buy 2 SQ-50.
Never thought they would match a pair of B&W 704 but they did.

So I must thank you for a new experience in sound (bowing deeply) =)

We could have many, many more. But due to a ”computer disaster” in early november 2008 most of our email was lost.
