Installing the Valutronic Tilt
Microphone System.

It is really
rather simple: All microphone holders are connected in parallell. All
red wires to the red wire inside the screened cable (called SDLS by
us), all white wires to the white wire inside the screened cable, and
all black wires to the screen itself. Red wires = +12V. White wires =
microphone output signal Black/screen = microphone signal ground.
(Please notice: Microphone signal ground is NOT the same as audio
mixer ground. They must be kept apart.)
Then, the screened cable is connected to the SMK-1
interface unit:
Screen to 1, red to 2, and white to 3 on the SMK-1
connector.
Finally, 5 and 6 on the SMK-1 connector are connected
to a line input on the audio mixer, and the 12V DC supply is plugged
into the SMK-1 battery eliminator contact.
If you have benches that are fixed to the floor,
wiring can often be done inside the furniture itself. No extra
connectors are needed between seats and floor / wall:

Or,
if you prefer:

If you need flexible connection between a row of chairs and the floor (or wall, if the row of chairs is close to the wall), you use one MU-1S on the floor/wall and one on the underside of a chair, and a MMS-1 helix cable in between.
The MMS-1 is a standard modular cable (spiralized,
"helix") with RJ-11 plugs in both ends, where the polarity
at one end of the cable is oppsite to the polarity at the other end
of the same cable. (This is what is often called a ”straight”
connection...) If you look at the plugs on one cable, they look like
this:
– As you can see, one end (the left) has the black wire to the
left, while the other has the black wire to the right. Because of
this, the colour-coding inside one of the MU-1S is reversed.
On
the floor we recommend this connection: Cable screen to black wire
inside the MU-1S. White to yellow, red to red. This way you can check
the wiring simply by connecting a microphone directly to the MU-1S on
the floor or wall. If it works, the wiring to the MU-1S is correct.
The MU-1S on the chair, however, will be connected in reverse:
Cable screen (cable from microphone holders) to yellow wire
inside the MU-1S,
cable red to green wire inside the MU-1S and
cable white to black wire inside the MU-1S
Of course, you may experiment with other methods of interconnection if you like as long as the red cable from the microphone holders connect to plus, black go to minus and white go to signal input on the SMK-1.
Our own ND-12 DC-supply will not work in the U.S. or other places that don´t use the europlug and a line voltage of 230VAC, but any 12V 400mA well stabilized DC supply with the right plug and polarity (5.5 mm (7/32”) outside diameter, 2.4 mm (3/32”) hole, negative center, positive outside) will do.
