Why?
The
most important reason for installing the MIK 7 microphones is that
you don´t have to wait for someone to bring the microphone to
you.
You can answer right
away, and that means that many more comments can be given.
Also, giving short comments feels more natural when you don´t
have to wait severals seconds before giving your comment.
We have compared two congregations during the Watchtower study. One with the tilt microphones installed (in Sweden) and one where two brothers carry the microphones to those who wish to give comments (in the Netherlands).
The comparison was made in august 2001.
|
“Ordinary” microphones (Netherlands) |
MIK 7 tilt microphones (Sweden) |
|
|
Total time waiting for the microphones |
5 minutes 42 seconds |
No waiting time |
|
Total number of comments during the study |
65 |
100-110 |
|
Time for the study itself |
1 hour 2 minutes |
55 minutes |
This is no
“scientific study”, but it is easy to realize that just
waiting more than 5½ minutes is not an ideal way of spending
time during a Watchtower study.
If giving the question to a
person and he/she giving his/her comment takes about 10 seconds, the
congregation can give more than 30 extra comments during a typical
Watchtower study, after switching from ”carry around”
microphones to our tilt microphones.
A 20-minute point at
the service meeting got similar figures:
Waiting for the
microphones took about 40%(!) of the total time for comments in the
congregation that used the old system. (The average comment took 7
seconds, the average waiting time was 5 seconds.)
But this is not the only reason to get rid of the old carry-around microphones:
For a shy person, the time it takes for someone to bring you a microphone is v-e-r-y long. It will feel less frustrating to just lift up a tilt microphone and give a short comment right away.
When there are no brothers walking around the hall during the meeting, it becomes easier to concentrate on the study.
The tilt microphones don´t need any batteries and there are no cables on the floor that one can trip over.
